Duncan was a good friend of Phoebe Buffay. Intially beliving he was gay, Duncan and Phoebe agree to get married, so he could become a US citizen. Depsite his supposed homosexuality, Phoebe was in love with Duncan, and was heartbroken when he left to travel the country for his ice skating perfomances.
